IEL Communication Skills -
Today we learned about subject and object pronouns and the correct usage in English. Students took notes and practiced in groups creating sentences and replacing nouns with pronouns. Practice worksheets are due tomorrow. Students also completed their writing prompts and writing conferences with Ms. Snyder. IEL Science Skills - We read and wrote a poem about plants and had a quiz on plant parts and life cycle. We began talking about animals and the animal life cycle. Students watched a video and took notes and created flashcards for key vocabulary. IEL Communication Skills-
Students reviewed for Unit One Test which will be tomorrow. Topics covered on the test include usage of punctuation marks in English, singular and plural nouns, subject and verb agreement, conjugations of the verbs to be, to do and to have. Students also read this month's edition of "Easy English News" and chose one article to summarize and five key vocabulary words. IEL Science Skills - Students completed their diagrams of a plant and labeled the parts. Students divided into groups and read different articles about plant life. Groups then presented three key facts to the class. IEL Communications Skills - Students took notes on subject and verb agreement and defined what a subject and predicate part of a sentence is. Students worked in groups to practice identifying subjects and verbs.
Students practiced correcting sentences with improper subject verb agreement and created their own sentences. Students practiced the different uses of the verbs to be, to have and to do. IEL Science Skills - Continuing with our unit on plants, students learned key vocabulary for the various plant families and their characteristics. We read the text experts about fruits and vegetables in our groups and students presented their findings to the class. Remember to bring your Rosetta Stone workbook to school tomorrow!!
IEL Communication Skills-
Students completed the Common Assessment pre-test today. We read the article "What is School Bullying?" and discussed in small groups. Students responded in their journals about how they feel about school bullying. The Noun Packets were returned to students to be corrected and due tomorrow. IEL Science Skills - We continued to talk about animal cells and introduced new vocabulary about cells in the human body. Students identified different cells and compared their functions. Today we took a quiz on alphabetizing in English. We took notes about nouns, what is a noun and how to form plurals of nouns in English. Learn the three basic spelling rules. Students work with partners to create word cards for the Noun Word Wall. Read the article "Can Bullying be Stopped?" Discuss the article with the class and answer the comprehension questions. Identify 10 nouns in the article. HOMEWORK- make a list of ten plural nouns you find in your home tonight IEL Science Skills - Today we watched a film from Khan Academy about animal and plant cells. Students took notes in their interactive notebooks. Complete the drawings of a plant cell and an animal cell. Write two sentences to describe each picture. Today we reviewed punctuation marks and practiced correct usage in context. We also took notes on the skill of alphabetizing in English and practiced as a group and then individually. Students must complete journal entry - "How can I succeed in this class?" Science Skills - Today we began learning about cells and the parts of the cells. Students took notes and completed the diagram and flashcards for their interactive notebooks. Remember to bring all class supplies by Friday and if you have not returned the parent letter please do so ASAP IEL Communication Skills II -
Today we reviewed vocabulary from IEL I and simple present tense verbs. Students played Pictionary and Charades with collaborative teams to review. Complete the vocabulary review sheets for homework if not finished in class today. If you did not bring your binder today please have that no later than Friday! IEL Science Skills - Today we learned the steps of the Scientific Method and vocabulary for tools used in scientific experimentation and data collections. Students completed vocabulary flashcards and discussed key points in the reading "Science Around Us" If you did not return your parent letter signed today do not forget to bring that tomorrow!! Also, remember to bring your Rosetta Stone notebooks to class everyday!! Welcome back to 2nd Semester! I hope you had a wonderful break!
